March Madness with the Chevrolet Equinox 2013

I recently went on a mini road trip to Detroit to watch NCAA March Madness basketball with 2 friends and a relative. I had the opportunity to use a Chevy 2013 Equinox LT. I want to "Thank" the folks at GM Canada for making this vehicle available to me. It was a pleasure to drive on our 5 hour trip from Toronto to Detroit. It was the perfect sized vehicle for 4 guys and our carry ons, but more on that later since we decided to do some shopping!

My first impression of the interior was of surprise. The leather interior with the red stitching was impressive to say the least. The type of stitching you see in higher end models of car.

For most of the trip I was a back seat passenger. I felt very comfortable with enough leg room in the back. The following two photos show the leg room I had compared to when I was in the The Palace of Auburn Hills to watch the game. I felt more comfortable in an Equinox than my own arena seats at the game.

My seat inside The Palace arena.

Heading to The Palace to enjoy the basketball game, we coincidentally spotted the Buick Encore on display. This is another vehicle that looks beautiful and you might want to check out.

After the game, we had a whole day to explore Detroit to eat and shop with the Equinox. We're able to store a lot of bags and shopping bags in the back quite efficiently with no problems.

Here is the back trunk space empty before shopping.

Here is the back trunk filled with all our stuff after shopping.

Overall this Crossover vehicle filled our needs with no complaints. Being guys we might like a little more power on acceleration but it was sufficient for our needs. Very fuel efficient since we only had to fill tank twice on trip. Some of the features I like of the Equinox:

OnStar: Press a button and get a live voice for directional help.

Lane Departure Warning: A button that activates a beep warning if you're close to crossing lanes. Very nice safety feature.

Backside Camera: A camera that allows you to view behind the car on the dash. Great for parking.

Battery Connection behind front console: Allows me to charge my smartphone or device from back seat.

Go Further with Ford 2012 Conference Series 1

Earlier this year I had the opportunity to be invited to the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It was a unique group of 150 bloggers/influencers from all aspects of art, design, digital moms etc. I felt honoured to be selected in this group and enjoyed the event thanks to Ford Canada. Last week I had another opportunity with Ford to attend a 3 day "Go Further" Trend Conference in Dearborn Michigan. Over the next few days I will detail my experience with this conference.

There is one thing consistent when I've attended any event with Ford Motor Company. They have paid attention to every little detail when it comes to organizing an event. The process of booking flight(s) and to accommodations overall has been absolutely perfect. You maybe asking what does this have to do with Ford but if you can imagine the detail they put into an event that eventually that thoughtfulness translates into the making of their cars and vehicles.

Before we get into the 3 Day Trend Conference, here are my post to refresh your memories and to give you an idea of the previous Ford events I've attended.

Ford Day 1

Ford Day 2

On the first day of arrival to Dearborn Detroit I was greeted by familiar faces from the previous NAIAS event as mentioned in the above links. We attended a great dinner being served at the Ford Field where the Detroit Lions of the NFL play. We had the opportunity to listen to "thought leaders" such as Bill Ford who is the great grandson of Henry Ford and David Kilpatrick, writer of the book "The Facebook Effect". The dinner of "surf and turf" was amazing. It concluded with an opportunity to get to play on the actual field. The rest of the evening was a great way to mingle and network with a lot of different people from all over the world. It was an opportunity that was so valuable to me personally.

This was so much fun to play and take pictures on the Detroit Lions field.

We had the opportunity to throw and kick for a field goal during our time on the field.

At the end of day we returned to our hotel nearby and had drinks with many of the attendees in the lobby bar. It was a very nice touch after a long day full of activities to see a Ford cookie with a letter to cap the night. Very nice touch, right? Stay tune for Day 2 of "Go Further" with Ford Trend Conference.

Go Further with Ford Conference July 26-28

I'm looking forward to spending the next 3 days in Detroit for the "Go Further with Ford" conference. The conference will cover some interesting topics on everything from global trends and Ford the company itself. There will be many key speakers to be highlighted, most notable to me would be Adrian Grenier of Entourage fame. I hope to meet him again since I met him last year at TIFF festival in Toronto. I'm also looking forward to meeting some new faces and old ones from the North American Auto Show earlier this year in Detroit. I'm excited to test drive some FORD vehicles over the few days.
